Abstract
Purpose : This study was to explore the lived experience in nurse communication in the workplace, with a particular interest in its impact on effective communication and to further provide fundamental data for communication of nurses.
Methods : Using Colaizzi¡¯s method, an exhaustive description was created, which was then condensed into a fundamental structure of the lived experience of communication in the nursing field; Twelve participants were recruited on the basis that they have worked at hospitals that were divided into two groups. The data was collected from July 2018 to August 2018 with face-to-face interviews.

Results : By using Colaizzi¡¯s phenomenological method, five themes were identified : ¡®Crisis in communication¡¯, ¡®Uncertainty in Nursing performance¡¯, ¡®Lack of respect as a nurse¡¯, ¡®Generation gap among nurses¡¯, and ¡®Heal a broken heart¡¯.

Conclusion : The use of phenomenological framework entailed a great challenge for the researchers. However, it also enabled a unique opportunity to illuminate important existential phenomena related to the lived experience of nurses in communication in their work field. Ideally, an institutional culture with open-minded respect must be established. That is validated by an education and intervention program affecting each other reciprocally and continuously.
